Feel free to use it anywhere. The license is GPL, so it's very permissive. If you distribute it in any binary software (could include slideshow software), however, you have to make your the source files availabe in order to comply with the license. Though the license doesn't require it, I'd just personally like to request that you don't go around claiming to have created it yourself, like some guy called "Booyabazooka" at Wikipedia is apparently doing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Ambox_style.png . I don't mind that the image is being used at Wikipedia -- far from it, I'm really happy about that. I'm just not too pleased this guy feels the need to claim he created "the vector version", when he didn't.

In KDE it's a 2-step process... first, add the "menu" applet to your kicker (or a child panel like I believe I did here, if my recollection is accurate)... it will be empty, at first. Next you need to open kcontrol and go to Desktop>Behavior... then under "Menu Bar at Top of Screen" change it to the option "Current applications's menu bar (Mac OS-Style)". Enjoy! - Dec 21 2004

I'm not sure to which Einstein quote you were referring, but here goes a few:

"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." - Albert Einstein

"The pioneers of a warless world are the youth that refuse military service. ." - Albert Einstein

"The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing." - Albert Einstein

"Count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies; for the hardest victory is over self. " - Albert Einstein

...hope that helps. - Jun 16 2004

This may be a bit offtopic, but does anyone know if there is a way to turn off KDE's underlining of the letter of the 'hotkey' in some menu and button text (example: the 'L' in 'Location', the 'E' in 'Edit', etc.)? I know this is for efficiency in usability (able to use the keyboard faster than mouse, etc.), but This would make things look more OS X - like. Thanks in advance. - Jun 14 2004

That's really a shocking quote. I'd never heard it, before. I like the way it clearly expresses something that many people overlook, nowadays... the real fight isn't about the false 'left-right' political scale (something just meant to keep the masses infighting amongst themselves), but rather about freedom vs. authoritarianism that serves to manipulate the masses (regardless of professed ideology). Great work. Keep it up! - Jun 10 2004

Wallpaper Other by iwan04 7 comments

...judging from the low rating, I think your mistake was posting an American-themed wallpaper in a global context. Europeans (disproportionately represented on kde-look, from what I've seen), in particular, seem easily offended by this sort of thing, interpreting it as a "USA is better than everybody else" attitude. I doubt that's what you meant to express, and therefore I voted 'good'. Don't get discouraged. - Jun 02 2004

Couldn't they just remove this as unnecessary in that distant future when we all have a cool X server that does the shadows optimally, and in the meantime, we'd have our shadows (even if it *is* something of a hack). I for one, am tired of reapplying patches repeatedly. - Apr 30 2004

All you need to do is open Konqueror, type "fonts:/" in the address bar, then go to either "System" or "Personal"... most of my fonts can be found in "fonts:/System/truetype/". In your menu set "View>View Mode>Icon View". Konqueror will make thumbnails that show examples of the font. Mouseover gives more detail. Finally double clicking gives a preview of the entire set. - Apr 23 2004

Thank you for the helpful suggestions. I'm actually considering modifying the very widgets you've named because I agree with your basic premise. I'd prefer this style not to be another Aqua copy (there are already so many good ones available), but rather something more unique to Linux, and KDE, more specifically. Look for a 'fixed' version coming to KDE-Look soon! :-) - Jan 12 2004

Various KDE 1.-4. Styles by gg3po 42 comments

I'm getting a little tired of the aqua look alikes, myself, which is why I chose not to give this a stippled, white background with blue widgets :-) . You're correct in noting that it has some influence from Aqua, but I've tried to downplay that and distance this from Aqua as much as I can (maybe I should do so more?). Following your advice, in choosing a name for this theme/style, therefore, I think I'd rather avoid the use of any form, or translation of the word 'Aqua', in an attempt to make this something more uniquely KDE/GNU-Linux, as opposed to another Mac copy (not to put down any of the Aqua copies out there. There are some exceptionally good ones, and I've used more than a few). - Jan 12 2004

I was kind of afraid this would be the case. The background gradient was probably the main reason I had originally asked if such a theme was even possible. I thank you for your answer to my question.
