Previous version runs very nicely, does what is needed. Nice.

The latest-and-greatest, I cannot compile. The good old AM_, AC_ thingies undefined catch22. Make -f makefile.cvs will not run because it demands automake 1.61 or newer and I have 1.66 and 1.7 around. Time to make these scripts a bit more tolerant, I think. Done.

This is very nice (KDE might someday package as an alternative!). Some suggestions:

1. Cache the icon-entries in the background. Submenus should come up "instantly". Now there is a very noticeable delay the first time.

2. Have a button or entry for bookmarks.

3. Something the kmenu does not have: Similar item for addressbook.

4. Do not need the word "Menu" next to the icon. For someone who still does not know what it is, a tooltip will suffice.

5. I had a crash. Next time will get a trace. However, when the kicker came back up, the menus was no longer there. Kmenu will be reinserted along with the other applets. - Apr 05 2007

Note: All of the locale.count lines in the setup.py are flagged as errors when the interpretor wants them. I commented them out. Then I had to fix indentation at one point (python parses indentation!) and then it installed just fine.

QtEmu

System Tools (NOT OS or ROMS) by uwolfer 36 comments

This is nice looking, trying to be more like virtualbox and other such interfaces than the usual qemu GUIs.

A few quirks:

1. Selecting device from /dev is wierd. OK, most likely recognizing the not-so-nice qemu-fact that if a floppy or CD is not in the drive selected, qemu will not run.

2. Sound. Qemu will emulate a sound-blaster or en1370. Need pane for this.

3. Networking has options, to be implemented I suppose. Simply worked as-is.

4. SHM (insist on it?)

5. kqemu,ko. Yes (if modprobed), no, enhanced (only for linux guest but makes a big difference).

6. Important question: If I am using an image or iso already created, what is the function of the MyMachine/OS/Os.img? Initial snapshot? Possible "nest" for Knoppix or Dynebolic? Option to use mine instead?? Qemu will allow multiple hd "drives" so you might implement as well.

7. USB Tablet? I do not have one. I have a Roland UM1 Midi interface plugged in, no others. Are you running the mouse using this tablet to get it seemless? Would explain all the mouse results (see below). Option not to use this?

Results:

At first, Win98 did not run. Starting adding new hardware already on my image, found driver (USB Tablet) on non-existant D: drive!!! Soon simply stopped. At this point, seemless mouse worked!! Reran, cancelling that driver. Now win98 worked but not seemless mouse.

Dynebolic boots up much slower than in virtualbox so kqemu may not be (fully) utilized. I had successful runs with Dyne 1.4 previously in qemu but 2.* would not run. Knoppix's KDE would not come up either. Both of these work beautifully in VirtualBox.

ReactOS ran and so did Haiku (BeOS). Choosing seemless mouse rendered the mouse inoperative in both of these! - Mar 20 2007

Is is from "Sonik". Sonik functions though maybe not the app itself seem to be in the KDE distriubtion (although my directory is not from a clean install and the file might have been put there not by konstruct). (It has run afoul of other compilations besides yours.)

The problem is that something like "data.h" is a bit too generic. Neither Sonik nor KNemo should use risky names such as that. SonikData.h and KNemodata.h would avoid such problems.

Of course, setting up the configure scripts which are, however, also quite generic, to have -I for local directories BEFORE -I for globals such as $KDEDIR/include, /usr/include and such, should avoid the problem . - Aug 12 2006

Might choose keystrokes to common "standards" such as for undo/redo, etc. Might let users configure them somewhere along the line as well since such choices can be quite ideosynchratic and mother-language dependent.

Now, for plugins :-)

BTW, not everyone's qmake will work. There is a qmake-qt3 (no!) and qmake-qt4 (that's the one). Better specify than run a qmake which is a symlink to the qt3 which will disable the make totally.
