When you say detailed forecast, are you talking about the plain english weather description (sort of a paragraph).

It's a possibility. Just have to work out how to get it from the site - shouldn't be too hard. I'll look into it tonight.

This is interesting. When I first set this up, I had the arrows pointing in the direction that the wind was going to, rather than the direction that it was coming from. This seemed counter-intuitive to me, and so I changed it to the opposite.

I might add it as an option, although it will increase the size of the package.

If you move the theme, so that part of it is off screen, then this causes a problem. Open ~/.superkaramba/liquid_weather.rc in an editor. You will find a line with x=n and a line with y=n (where "n" is a placehoder for a number).

One of those numbers will be negative. Delete it, and replace it with a positive number, and all should be well.

Regarding kilopascals, all the weather forecasts I've ever seen have used millibars. That's why it was chosen.

Regarding other languages, the text comes from weather.com and bbc. As far as I can see, it would be difficult to translate it on the fly. Also, I speak one language only (ie English), with a little school Deutsch. Unless someone else wants to take on this task, it's not going to happen.

Regarding Montreal, I have no control over the weather.com site. If there are issues with Montreal, you may just have to use BBC.

Yes, read the faq (it's one option in the configure menu). You need to click on the option "Enable if details cycle thru all days". You may need to reload the theme for the change to take effect.

The Superkaramba author has found the bug that causes this, and is in the process of testing a fix. However, the above is a work-around in the meantime.

If it's not working, use the BBC site! Sorry to sound exasperated, but your problem would be fixed if you just used the bbc site code provided. The weather.com site obviously has a prejudice agains Montreal.

This should work.

Although you are getting an error, it is not related to changing the location, and is normal, and does not affect the operation of the script. It is something that needs to be tidied up, but as that error does not affect functionality, I have not tidied it up yet.

Two suggestions:

When you change locations, if it doesn't change immediately, try clicking on reload theme.

Alternatively, you might be suffering from the "calm" bug. Do you have the latest version (0.10.4) installed?

I've been having a few of those problems of late. Unfortunately, I did not write the code that parses the websites to get the forecast info. Also unfortunately, I am not all that familiar with regular expressions, and therefore will have to do some study to see where the issues lie.

I tried to do some debugging this morning, and the script didn't behave as I would have expected. It didn't print debug info where I had expected it would, so I need to investigate that a bit further.

Regarding the image issue, is that an always bug, or is it a once in a while bug. ie if you restart the theme, do you still get the same bug.

Thanks.

LCD Clock

Karamba & Superkaramba by Matti 13 comments

Can't at this stage. I'm thinking of shifting this to a python based theme, which would allow me to switch between 24hr and 12hr time. At the moment it is simply a 24 hour clock.

I'll get onto the python thing if there is demand for this.

To fix the cycling problem, go to the configure menu, and click "Enable this if detail cycles thru days". You may need to reload the theme, for it to take effect.

The change location dialog does refer to US Zip codes - not sure what you're referring to here.

Regarding redraw issue, this is inherent in superkaramba. v.30 has a callback to get around this. I have not implemented it yet, as the API docs haven't been updated yet, and I haven't had time to play with it.

Regarding the readme, I am going to put an FAQ/README in the configure menu, so that this document is displayed as a help file.

You say that you are using an older version. Which version? Wouldn't it make sense to upgrade if it's not working for you?

It consistently updates for me as per the script, so I'm not sure why you are having trouble. The only time it doesn't update, is when there is a problem with my connection, or when there is a problem with the site that it's trying to parse. Have you gone to the relevant URL to see if the page is up and functional?

Post the location code you are using, so I can test it.

Karamba & Superkaramba by Matti 1794 comments

The location is not determined by what's in the weather.html file, it's determined by what's in the liquid_weather.rc file. When you're in the theme, right click, go to configuration and change the location by putting in the weather.com alphanumeric code for your location. It will be US******. Where the stars are two letters, then four numbers.

Karamba & Superkaramba by Matti 1794 comments

I'll have a look at it. It looks like it might be similar, however, I didn't write the bits of the app that actually get the data, so if it requires me to fiddle with the regular expressions that parse the weather.com site, then you'll be out of luck. I suspect you may be out of luck, but I'll check.

Matt - Aug 16 2003

Karamba & Superkaramba by Matti 1794 comments

It means that the theme can't connect to the website necessary to download the data, and there is no locally stored information. Are you connected to the internet when you start this up?

For some reason I can't get it to work on USNY0176. I can get it to work on a number of other US cities using the weather.com site, but not New York. The BBC site works tho. Put in 0101, and you'll have the new york forecast.

Yeah, I get that occasionally, but I've had it occasionally on previous releases as well, so I don't think it's new to the current code. Anyway, I'm also experiencing the time bug. Karamba & Superkaramba by Matti 1794 comments

Re the locking problem, do you toggle the locking back on before exiting?

Also re the scroll problem, this appears to be fixed now on everyone elses box. Maybe you should upgrade to 0.29.

re a rewrite, 0.10 is effectively a rewrite, given that it now adds an optional click method. This seems to have fixed everyone elses problem. Furthermore, it is not an issue with the script, I think it is a bug in superkaramba, which only affects people using gentoo and suse 8.2. Who knows why, but there it is.

The theme requires that you have the Microsoft Web Fonts installed (it uses Arial Black and Verdana).

I may add a config option to switch to more conventional linux fonts like luxi sans or just sans.

However the MS Web Fonts are available on the web. Check on sourceforge.
