I dont know why, but the the install.sh seems to use a wrong path on kubuntu. Copy both files to
"/usr/share/kde4/services/plasma-applet-quicklauncher.desktop"
and
"/usr/lib/kde4/plasma_applet_quicklauncher.so"
otherwise i can give you my compiled package (kubuntu 8.10) - Oct 06 2008
