for some reason, on museeq..the tabs do not display correctly with this style. They have no text..or real gradient. You basically can barely see them..and you definitely can't read them.

Cool, the new menu is extremely impressive. One thing though, as someone stated above, not all of the programs get put into the menu automatically. I think kbfx should read subdirectories too, so it finds all of the programs that the normal menu has. This seems to be a big problem for a lot of people..no menu items!

I think the way it searches should be optional, or a choice in the preferences. I'm not sure if searching for just id3 tags would be a good idea (if thats what you meant)..because alot of people rely on filenames instead of id3tags (which is probably a bad idea..but some do). For me, I usually display songs by [filename] [length] (in the playlist window). Just my thoughts =o. - Feb 14 2006

Is it just me, or is this beta version a HUGE Improvement. It has some great new features, but most importantly, atleast for me...it's VERY fast and responsive. I'm not sure what was done...but it now seems very 'lightweight'. No lag what so ever. Awesome. I also really like the new statistics dialog. I just installed the newest version..would love to try out the new menu. However, when I go to the kcontrol module to configure it...it closes and I get a "program crash" error. I just installed this, so maybe I need to restart. I will try that now. - Jan 26 2006

Are you guys mental, dyslexic, or just plain ignorant? For one, if you don't want something that looks like 'windows'..good for you. Quit clicking on this link. Secondly, this vista theme is ONE THEME. You know, theme..hence the word theme. www.dictionary.com. Look up theme.

KBFX is themable *gasp..the word again* and can look however you want it to. This is definitely no windows rip off...so stop complaining.

On another note, I think the current kde menu is messy, unorganized, and boring. Hell, the windows xp menu is more functional and better looking. Oh, and the kde menu button..don't even get me started. It doesn't even stand out. New users wouldn't even know what to click. I'm not saying that KDE isn't amazing...it is. I'd rather look at kde over windows XP any day. Way cleaner and nicer...but that isn't the point.

..as I always say...Windows isn't bad in every aspect. The GUI isn't bad...and the menu is certaintly good IMO. There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking good ideas from windows, bettering them and using them to our advantage. This 'it looks like windows...flee!' mentality is seriously going to keep linux as barberic as possible. If you want to look at a console all day long, good for you...you do that, but stop trying to make linux degress rather than progress. - Dec 29 2005

I compiled and installed the latest pre-release of this program...9 or whatever. Anyway, it seemed to go well..I can open the program. However, no thumbnails of images load..and when I click on an image, it won't do anything. No error...no nothing. The image wont open in the viewer.

Any suggestions? :P.

Much better sollution than tabs! Looks better too. I'm starting to really like it now.

Suggestion: ALlow the left frame to resize automatically (in proportion with the folder text), For example, I have crossover office, and it makes a folder in the menu called 'Windows_Applications". The left size is too narrow..so "Windows_Applications" gets cut off.

Also: For some reason..when I click on the menu button again (after clicking it).., the menu will not go away. It just reopens, so you have to click out of it *on the desktop or something* to make it dissapear. Just a slight issue.

A question...

I'm not sure how programs are put into this menu. Does it find the settings that are in the .kde folder and use those? For some reason..it doesn't show all of the programs that the kmenu has. Like my multimedia folder only has realplayer...yet I have many multimedia applications (amarok, juk, etc..).

On another note, do you plan on creating a menu editor of some sort for this? I think it would be good if there could be seperators...so say...in the multimedia folder (on the right) you could make seperators for groups of programs (like audio players, video players, etc) so it's just more organized.

Just some thoughts, I'm really liking the new setup though. - Nov 08 2005

It LOOKS nice..but I'm just not liking it. I don't like the regular kmenu in terms of looks really, it is bland, but this kbfx menu's functionality isn't great. I suppose I don't like the whole tab thing...it's somewhat confusing..and slow (to look through everything).

Cool, tell me if this is still in the works. I know someone said 'copying' windows ia a bad thing...but here is nothing wrong with getting certain ideas from it. Windows is not a bad piece of software...it has good and bad points, just as linux.

Anyway, the current KDE menu IMO is messy and unorganized, and can get too big easily. It needs a face lift. - Oct 06 2005

When you compiled it..did you do ./configure --prefix=/opt/kde3

You have to set it into your kde directory..or else it'll install somewhere in your /usr/local directory (which kde won't find it) - Jul 28 2005

Well, to start out..I love how you can use custom buttons. That's great. Good job :). About the menu -- it's a start. I believe it should be easily themable..and I'm sure you'll implement such a feature. The menu it self, and how it works is odd. The whole tab thing is quite un-traditional, but maybe change is good? It would definitely take a bit of getting use to...as most people are use to menu's with submenus instead of tabs. Generally, it's nice..I'm just not use to it yet. I'll look forward to even more cool features, especially with this new menu..because really, the kmenu is due for a face lift. :) - Jul 24 2005

Finally a good msn messenger for kde! I like it. However, I think it really needs to be themeable. As in, change the backgrounds for the messenger and chat windows. It looks really bad for people who have dark kde schemes. I'd like to be able to change the background...or something. Or, make it like AMSN..where the program itself stays one color ( a default grayish). My desktop is a dark red..so the white parts are too off. I'm sure there's more important things that need to be done, but just a thought! :) - Jul 24 2005
