I intentionally did not include the ebuild because it seems to create a dependency on Qt4/KDE4 while version 1.2.9 requires Qt5/KF5. The ebuild will have to first be updated before i can officially support it. - Aug 18 2017

The git version now does this. The audio notification will be triggered only when there is a new email in an account. Will appreciate if you could test and comment if it works as you expect it to - Oct 25 2013

i cant seem to be able to add new comment at the end of this thread since the "reply to this" link is gone so i am adding it here, hope you can follow.

I just made a commit that will audio notify only if the number of new emails from just finished check is greater than the one from previous one. This check is easy to do and should do for now.

To account for a scenario where a user may read one email and get another to give different emails in their inbox but with the same number of email count will take some doing and its for another day.

If you are curious, the problem is two folds.

1. I will have to see a recognizable pattern from output returnd by google, you can see the output by running qCheckGMail from the terminal with "-d" option.

2.qCheckGMail handles arbitrary number of accounts with arbitrary number of labels.Keeping track of individual account state from previous check and compare them from current check may require a bit more effort.

The code from git should be sufficient for your use case for now. - Oct 24 2013

qCheckGMail does not pop up a message when new emails are found,it only changes its icon and plays a sound.A pop up bubble is produced only when a user mouse over the icon.

With my use case,i read email i get as soon as qCheckGMail notifies me of their presence and hence it currently doesnt account for noticing the same new email it noticed on the previous check.

Will add new code shortly to play a sound only when the number of new emails went up since last check. - Oct 24 2013
isnt that how its supposed to work?Your description is a bit ambiguous to me as i can read it to mean different things.

The icon and icon bubble reflects the state of the email account the last time the check was done.

If the state of the email account changes(eg new email arrived) and qCheckGMail does not reflect the change then there is a bug in it.What version of qCheckGMail are you using? - Oct 24 2013
thanks for the suggestions.I just made a commit to reflect them.

gmail-plasmoid was one of my favorite applications but it has a very annoying bug that freezes the desktop everytime my internet connection became shaky.I made a bug report and it went for a very long time without being fixed,it still isnt fixed as of this writing and i then decided to create this application to solve gmail-plasmoid problems i was having and i then decided to share the program with the community at large.

i am glad you have found my effort useful. - Oct 24 2013
qCheckGMail asks KDE to open a web browser and KDE does so using its default web browser. If you want firefox to be used instead, change KDE default browser to firefox.

you can change the setting at: "system settings->workspace appearance and behavior->default application->web browser" - Aug 13 2013
just published a new version with the correction. Thanks for making me aware of this - Jun 23 2013
Thanks for the report,i based the build process in this project from my other project and those just carried over. They are not even needed there and i just forgot about them.

Will remove them and make a new release shortly - Jun 22 2013
I do not see how it is doing that, the build system is controlled by CMakeLists.txt file in the source folder and it doest not have any of those words and hence can not be responsible for creating them. You can look at the file from this link:

Do you have zuluCrypt installed?old version automatically created those groups, newest version does not.zuluCrypt is hosted at: - Jun 22 2013
open "CMakeLists.txt" file from the source folder,go to line 29 and then add "/lib64/" next to "-lkwalletbackend"

The line should now read:

TARGET_LINK_LIBRARIES( qCheckGMail -L${KDE4_LIB_DIR} -L${QT_LIBRARY_DIR} -lkdeui -lkwalletbackend /lib64/ )

try to build again. - Jun 19 2013

you are supposed to have a symbolic link at "/usr/lib64/" that points to one of the two listed libraries.

you can manually create the soft link file by running this command from root's account

ln -s /usr/lib64/ /usr/lib64/

when you are done, try to build again and see if it will still complain - Jun 19 2013

log in to root's account and then run the following command and paste its output here

locate *kwalletbackend* - Jun 19 2013
as far as i know, not yet. Will keep you posted if i become aware of one.Hope somebody will as i dont use a debian based system and hence couldnt make one even if i knew how to make debian packages. - Jun 16 2013

I am working on "yet another email checker for gmail" called "qCheckGMail" and it does exactly what you are asking here. The icon will be greyish and autohidden when there are no new email and will be bluish and shown when there are emails. On error, the icon changes to red.

The page for the project is:

i will in about a week's time as i am doing final touches now.The reason why i am posting here is because i am starting to advertise it in anticipation of its release. If you wished gmail-plasmoid could so something, saying it now and it will probably make it for the initial release. - Jun 09 2013

This was one of my favorite applications and it hanging plasma was the most annoying issue it has for me.The upstream seem to be dead and hence i decided to replicate the program in Qt/C++ and the repository is at:

All features are in and will make version 1.0.0 in about a week's time. - Jun 09 2013

Finally, i have been looking for kuickshow replacement since forever since kuickshow seem to be abandoned. Thank you very much for creating this.

I usually have a bunch of pictures in a folder and i go through them to decide which one to keep and which one to delete. The tool currently does not have an option to delete an image and hence i am forced to use it to look at the picture and then to go to the file manage to delete it if i dont want to.

It will be great if a context menu option to delete a picture and a shortcut feature will be added. Kuickshow had it and it was my most used feature.

Thank you. - Feb 13 2012

i noticed that mplayer goes crazy when trying to create an image on a growing file.

how to test it.
open up konqueror on a download folder and then start downloading a video file using firefox and an infinite mplayer instances will be started slowing down the system to a crawl

browsing away from the folder and all these instances of mplayer will start disappearing, one at a time

this problem was there in 2,2 too

i dont know what package is involved(i think its ffmpeg) but i have this package in both /usr and in /usr/local

when i ran the config script i get:
-- Found library mpeg2: /usr/lib/
-- Found include mpeg2dec/mpeg2.h : /usr/include
-- Found include avcodec.h: /usr/include/libavcodec
-- Found library avcodec: /usr/lib/
-- Found include avformat.h: /usr/include/libavformat
-- Found library avformat: /usr/lib/

showing that it uses the libraries from /usr

trying to compile and it fails with the following errors:

removing /usr/local from path, pkgconfig and ldconfig didnt make any difference ..i have to rename /usr/local for make to pass
- Mar 12 2009

this bug was there in version 2.1.0 and still there in this new release(2.2.0)

k9copy does not honor the config option to clear output directory on exit

..i always have to go and manually delete the temporary folder after i close k9copy in the previous version and this surprisingly obvious oversight is still present

woudnt it also be better if k9copy only had one window?

the first window will allow the user to set what they want/dont want to be ripped, then it will change a window where it will show the video being ripped and then will finally change to the last window where the iso is burned

showing two windows when the user cant go the main one when another one is displayed is a waste of taskbar areas - Feb 20 2009
