New Interface for KCall

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by arendjr2 19 comments

I would like to see a recording feature in kcall. I think it would also be cool to have a way to let the computer give you a call to somewhere else through a text2speech software controlled by a schedule, lets say I would like someone to give me a call and remind me something. It would also be nice to have a way to filter the call in such a way that a speech recognizer software could try to recognize something. I know this type of software (speech recognition software, voice authentication, etc) does not currently work that well but it might do in the future. And this could be a start. Is it possible to add any of this features when developing the GUI?. I only mean if it is possible to add a way to redirect incoming and outgoing sound to some other application through the GUI. As for the screenshots I have seen they really look nice. Good job. Don't worry too much about the features I have just proposed that might be a little too far from what you had in mind. Thanks in advance for developing for all of us. - Nov 17 2005

La sierra de gredos es preciosa. Lo único que sobre el año 1990 ya cobraban 300 ptas una cocacola.
Pues yo voy a poner imagenes de Sopelana (Vizcaya).

Well I was finally able to compile this nice piece of software.
I encountered many problems basicly due to openh323 and pwlib different versions. Thanks to some patient users I finally made it.
It was necessary to export those so mentioned variables save for the detail that you have to export them after configure. Thus it ended up being like this.
1 - Get openh323 and pwlib (1.12.2 and 1.5.2) to my surprise this take way longer to compile than more recent versions
2 - cd into anca's source and configure (in debian sid I had to use --prefix=/usr --with-qt-dir=/usr/share/qt3
3 - export OPENH323DIR=/home/user/src/openh323
export PWLIBDIR=/home/user/src/pwlib
I hope no one sets that same path if its not their real openh323 and pwlib source directory.
4 - enjoy it!!!!

Some other details I experienced:
Having I two v4l devices: video0 bttv and video1 ov511. First time I started it, videoin would recognise bttv perfectly and access it by default. When changing it to point video1 (ov511) it wouldnt be able to open device. I had to reboot, then it made it.
Interface is nice and simple. There are still some details that need improving but not that many.
To the author - Really nice tool, thx for sharing it with us. - Jan 24 2005

Thx for the --with-qt-dir parameter. That made the configure work.
But now I have something else. I had to reinstall openh323 and pwlib in /usr prefix otherwise it would give me errors when trying to access h323.h.
After that it tells me this:
MyAudioPlugin::updateCapabilities(const QValueList&)':
audioplugin.cpp:231: error: parse error before `(' token
audioplugin.cpp:232: error: `H323_GSM0610Capability' undeclared (first use this

When configuring the sources I get this:
checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.0.2) (headers and libraries) not found. Please check your installation!

Which only happens to me in old kde apps sources. (first Kde 3 releases)

If there is something to set differently in the configure script please let us know. - Jan 22 2005

Yesterday I installed Amarok beta 2 and I saw that lyrics were displaying just fine. Today when I booted my system and try to see the lyrics of the same song they didnt displayed. I tried beta 3 to see if that would fix it, but no luck at all. Any ideas?? - Jan 09 2005

I think kde is ready to beat the rest of the graphical environments. Now we have the possibility to use real transparency with xorg 6.8.1. All those shadows and those icon bars with nice zooming effects could become nicer and faster. More animations, in icons, in ksplash. It would be cool to have nice 3d icons in the desktop. If the shadows could have different depths would also be cool and having just parts of the windows transparent. Integrating a videoconference tool in kopete (it would be nice if videoconference could be recorded showing both faces). Adding the possibility to read the messages kde generates with a text to speech tool. And much more things could be done. :) - Dec 11 2004
KWin drop shadow patches

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by Deciare 134 comments

Well I suppose u have tried Xdirectfb and already now it does support alpha transparency (or however it is called in english lol). There you could really do great things with these. Well it would not only be great but far beyond that.
Otherwise and as long as u have to keep on doing screenshots the thing is not gonna work properly and is probably gonna take a lot more resources than what it should. It is a pity. I am sure you would do really amazing things if that alpha support would be available. What will happen now with that new licence of xfree or (x-not-that-free??) - Apr 29 2004
Control Centre idea

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by leinir 16 comments

I think your idea is pretty good, perhaps it could be improved but still its a good idea to begin with. Its not bad to look after things that look as cool as Mac Os X does, seriously that system is really outstanding when it comes to GUI. (I wonder if apple was the firs one releasing a real graphics interface). We should look at it, learn from it and do it better if possible. Anyway It never was about copying it, it was about being able to create something that cool too.
KDE is doing a great job, thanks to all. - Feb 06 2004

Various Plasma 5 Improvements by dangvd 703 comments

It is really nice. Thanks a lot for letting me enjoy it.
I have some suggestions:
1 - It would be nice if when you get closer to the bar with the po¡nter the bar reacts gradually.
2 - It would be nice to have an option which will make the bar extend to both side, right and left till it touches the corner of the screen.
3 - Please keep the position of the icons when zoomed like you are doing right now for next versions, that makes it look better than the other Mc style bars ( my opinion..) that make the icons move too much upper when zoomed.
4 - Wouldnt it be a nice idea to subdivide the bar in two bars, the upper one having those amezing icons which get zoomed and all that, and a small bar acting as a more typical task bar?. With not that many effects... I think it could look cool.
5 - Could it also be possible to make it vertical? - Jun 19 2003

Well I think XP has a real good look, however kde3.1 right now looks even better. Still there are some things nicer in windows, like the login. I havent said better, just nicer, ok?... - May 06 2003
SuperKaramba TuxBar with SMOOTH zoom

Karamba & Superkaramba by ageitgey 74 comments

I have tried the latest nvidia driver 4349 for my GeForce2 mx 400. Now the tuxbar goes really cool, still consums pretty much CPU resources (if moving around the bar too much), but now is great. On the other hand I find myself with a new problem. This nvidia module freezes my xfree 4.3 (and as far as I remember it used to do the same thing with xfree4.2) when trying to launch almost any application.
I am still amazed with this bar.. this superkaramba brings really nice posibilities when it comes to interacting with icons and all that. And this theme just demonstrates that clearly.
GOOD JOB. - Apr 21 2003
SuperKaramba TuxBar with SMOOTH zoom

Karamba & Superkaramba by ageitgey 74 comments

It is incredibly nice...
Slow on my Athlon XP 1800+ (512 MB ddr 266) in mine it also goes to 100% just moving the mouse around the tuxbar.
It would be great to find a solution.
The other version, (the one which wasnt that smooth with the zoom) was also a little bit slow, although comparing to this one was fast enough. I am using debian sid, kde 3.1.1 using latest qt, python2.2. I have a GeForce 2 MX 400 with the nvidia driver 3123. Kernel 2.4.20, I have agp 4x, enabled the Fast Write for the graphics card. I also use xfree 4.3. Maybe python doesnt go that fast with Athlon XP please help us :-D.
Still looks cool. :-D (slow but cool) - Apr 20 2003
