System Tools (NOT OS or ROMS) by luckyb 246 comments

hi miguipda,

luckybackup uses rsync to make transfers, not ftp.
ftp is a different protocol than the one rsync uses.
So, no you cannot use ftp
(though I'm not completely sure !! see PS).

You might want to consider trying the remote option of luckybackup and see if it is supported by your remote host.
Unfortunately remote connections do not work at the current version (known issue). You'll have to wait for a couple of days until the release of v0.2.1
If you're in a hurry, I could prepare a new version package (with the remote option working) for you (just tell me your architecture and platform eg deb, rpm) and I could mail that.

PS I read at some forum that if you use "ftp.host_name" as a remote module it 's actually gonna work. But I have not tried that... - Jan 30 2009

thank u (again :-)) for your interest fri.

You are more than welcome to provide your own version of the UI or anything you wish.
You can use my email address for that purpose.
Your help is much appreciated.

I already have an improved UI version (thanks to an email from sombody that arrived a few days ago) but additional work needs to be done in order to implement the changes to the code.
I could also forward that to you if you want me to, so that to avoid producing the same or similar thing twice.

I plan to release another version the next couple (I hope I'll make it !) of days so that to include the fixes of the bugs (known issues) of v0.2.
Very next priority is the UI improvement

taskbar-compiz for kde-3.5.10

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by ivik81 28 comments

been trying to compile this for quite some time now with no luck (thought about changing my nick for that reason :-p).

I would appreciate any guidelines cause it's starting getting on my nerves not being able to use this absolutely useful tool

I run kde 3.5.10 on a sidux box
configure goes all the way through:
"Good - your configure finished. Start make now"
...but make ends up with the following message:

/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lkickermain
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [libcompiztaskmanager.la] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/luckyb/Desktop/temp/taskbar-compiz/taskmanager'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/luckyb/Desktop/temp/taskbar-compiz'
make: *** [all] Error 2

forgot to wish
...a happy new year

now that is what a call a
small, smart, useful, why didn't anyone else think of it up to now, app
:-)

The install script seemed weird at the beginning (why is it already asking for my root password ??), but then I thought that's better.

I just wish it run on kde3 too

well done Znurre
you have a happy new year full of new opensource coding ideas

Thank you for your interest and the valuable feedback.
(I keep thanking people for the same reasons. It's not routine. I mean it every time:-)).

What can I say?
Have a look at the to-do list and confirm everything you stated.
The UI is a bit of a mess !!
(I can't believe I'm saying that)

Had a look at the link you provided too. It's gonna prove useful in the future.
But I have more important issues to deal with first and probably it's gonna take some time until the first dramatical UI improvement :-(

As for the icons...
I like the ones I use so much that I tend not to hear other opinions.
...but they are increasing, I have to admit.
...oxygen, does not look that bad after all :-P - Jan 08 2009

hi lucas,
I run into some compilation problems.

definitely this part of the error message is the problem:
...(for example, this could happen if $QTDIR is pointing to a Qt 3
installation)...

I got both qt3 & qt4 installed and normally got to run qmake-qt4 if I want to use qmake for the latter.

couldn't figure out a solution, so I would appreciate any guidelines (set the location of your qt4 dir with --qtdir does not count as an answer, cause I have no idea where that location is :-)).

looks like a great tool
looking forward to try it

hi Kenichi,

If you backup your / directory at super-user mode you can have a clone of your system at another location.
You just have to be careful to at least exclude /mnt & /media, preserve all data attributes & permissions, copy symlinks & hardlinks as they are and finally preserve devices & special files

Theoretically speaking and because of the fact that all atrributes of your data are the same, if you perform a restore operation you will end up with the initial system !!

I've never tried this so I cannot be 100% sure. - Jan 06 2009

fri13,
thank you for the nice words and the valuable feedback.

The "restore suggestions" are already in my to-do list.
It's not going to be implemented soon due to luck of time at this period of time, but it's a great idea and it will stay as a to-do item until done :-)

As far as the kde implementation is concerned you are right (not 100% though. Some kde functions are used). I will try to fully kde-develop in the future (with the exeption of the buttons - I like using my own :-)).
Until I figure out the exact project's policy (100% kde), I will temporarily leave it here. Maybe in the near future I will move it at qt-apps as you suggest (I hope that won't be too complicated ;-)) - Jan 06 2009

The new version is almost ready.
What's left:
- Command line support (that looks cool at console)
- cron support
- ssh password support (I'm not sure if I manage to do this !!)

It's gonna include the most common rsync options as checkboxes, plus the ability to add your own :)

go to the homepage link for install instructions.
