I've eliminated the possibility of the firewall. I'm still of the opinion that this is some bizarre networking issue. And like I said the problem is persistent across external apps including the translator that I can install with google-gadgets
I'm continuing to look into it.
Can I request, if you have any contact with the developers over at google to ask them what if anything might cause this kind of problem.
I appreciate any assistance that you can provide - Sep 16 2010

By the way... I tried the translator that I can install with google gadgets and I get the same results.
Under some network conditions it works under others it does not.
Very puzzling - Sep 15 2010

The user is unable to get any output while trying to translate. I'm experiencing the same trouble at work while at home I have no trouble at all. The only real difference is the firewall being used.
Would you be so kind as to indicate what ports are being used to communicate to google site when using your applet.
Thanks

kde-plasma-translatoid 1.30 does not seem to work with kde 4.4.5 and kde 4.5 rc1.
I type in test in top section. Either press Enter or on the Translate button and nothing happens. Fedora 13 - Jul 08 2010

However, the file says that the version is 1.20 while the website logs fixes for version 1.2. Which is correct?

Three more things.
In passing I noticed that the Yiddish translation was not working.
The second... Do you know if the fix that you have suggested works with kde 4.3.4 or is it just for 4.4?
Last... Are you aware if the fixes you have suggested will be packaged in an official release soon? - Jan 14 2010

When I try to translate from English to Hebrew. The translated text, while it "writes" from right to left, it is aligned to the left side of the dialogue box with periods (ie ".") being formatted so that they appear at the beginning of the sentence rather than at the end.
If there is a way to correct this, it would be greatly appreaciated. - Jan 14 2010

I;m the package maintainer for kde-plasma-translatoid for Fedora.
I have built and installed tranlatoid 1.1 and installed against qjson 0.7.1 and kde 4.4 RC1.
On top of the problem of accepting only one sentence, the translation is always produced with a trailing </hr>
It would seem that there is some kine of parsing error.
I hope that this can be fixed.
Thanks

Is there any progress on this issue?
Is there some reason that you need to have the flags specifically compiled into your plasmoid? Why not use the shared flags that kde uses? That way you don't have to worry about the issue at all. - May 04 2009

Country flags in Fedora / Redhat is against packaging policy due to concerns over the conflict between the Peoples Republic of China and Taiwan. In version 6 flagless you replaced the country flags with light bulbs. Which works just fine.
What would be best, and probably easiest in the long run for you is if you can section off the flags and then enable a cmake flag that excludes the flags. I don't know how to do this.
Your help would be most appreciated. - Apr 22 2009

It would be really easier in the long run, I think, if you're willing to do this, to be able to throw some kind of cmake option. some equivalent to make's option of --without-option. So essentially you would only have to do this once.

This is a great plasmoid.
I'm working to get translatoid packaged and included into Fedora. We have a problem including the country flags due to packaging constraints. A patch has been developed and we've worked around the issue by replacing the country flags with country codes. The patch can currently be found at:
http://rezza.hofyland.cz/fedora/packages/kde-plasma-translatoid/kde-plasma-translatoid-ban-flags.patch
It is my feeling, of course if you are willing, that a better approach would be to provide the option to exclude the country flags.
If you can help with this issue, it would be very greatly appreaciated.

What would really be great is the KDE team would come up with drag and drop in the menus. And then leave them alone the next time I upgrade KDE or my distro - May 07 2005
