K... Just tested it on Fedora 14. After a restart of KDE all is well

When can we expect an official release?

Thank you so much for your work on this.

The problem was that I was out of date with the version and my aging eyes did not spot that the version was updated.

I apologize for any confusion that I may have caused and thank you for you help in investigating this. - Oct 31 2010

K.. The initial bug reporter has indicated that he too is using x86_64 so that eliminates one "weird bug" hypothesis - Oct 07 2010

On further investigation, I have managed to test this on a x86_64 installationand on an i686 installation in the same networking environment at work. Thex86_64 based system it works. On the i686 based system it does not.

Could you please tell me what your installation is. It is an x86_64 or i686based installation

As I indicated in my first message. On my computer at home it works just find (on F13). At work it doesn't.

I've eliminated the possibility of the firewall. I'm still of the opinion that this is some bizarre networking issue. And like I said the problem is persistent across external apps including the translator that I can install with google-gadgets

I'm continuing to look into it.

Can I request, if you have any contact with the developers over at google to ask them what if anything might cause this kind of problem.

I appreciate any assistance that you can provide - Sep 16 2010

I requested some help from google groups. Perhaps someone there can provide some insight:

K. Today, I believe that I've eliminated the idea that the issue is a firewall problem. However the problem still remains under certain networking conditions. I will try to find some appropriate people to help with this.

By the way... I tried the translator that I can install with google gadgets and I get the same results.

Under some network conditions it works under others it does not.

Very puzzling - Sep 15 2010

Hi I just received a bug report at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=633712

The user is unable to get any output while trying to translate. I'm experiencing the same trouble at work while at home I have no trouble at all. The only real difference is the firewall being used.

Would you be so kind as to indicate what ports are being used to communicate to google site when using your applet.

Thanks

Hi

kde-plasma-translatoid 1.30 does not seem to work with kde 4.4.5 and kde 4.5 rc1.

I type in test in top section. Either press Enter or on the Translate button and nothing happens. Fedora 13 - Jul 08 2010

The update seems to be working just fine. Thank you.

However, the file says that the version is 1.20 while the website logs fixes for version 1.2. Which is correct?

K. Thanks for that.

Three more things.

In passing I noticed that the Yiddish translation was not working.

The second... Do you know if the fix that you have suggested works with kde 4.3.4 or is it just for 4.4?

Last... Are you aware if the fixes you have suggested will be packaged in an official release soon? - Jan 14 2010

Hi again

When I try to translate from English to Hebrew. The translated text, while it "writes" from right to left, it is aligned to the left side of the dialogue box with periods (ie ".") being formatted so that they appear at the beginning of the sentence rather than at the end.

If there is a way to correct this, it would be greatly appreaciated. - Jan 14 2010

Confirmed. That the trailing </hr> tag is gone. Well done :)

However, I can still only translate 1 sentence. - Jan 13 2010

Looked at 1.1 on KDE 4.3.4 the </hr> tag isn't there but Translatoid still only returned the translation of the first of multiple sentence text. - Jan 11 2010

Hi

I;m the package maintainer for kde-plasma-translatoid for Fedora.

I have built and installed tranlatoid 1.1 and installed against qjson 0.7.1 and kde 4.4 RC1.

On top of the problem of accepting only one sentence, the translation is always produced with a trailing </hr>

It would seem that there is some kine of parsing error.

I hope that this can be fixed.

Thanks

I can confirm that I am able to build the rpm as is. However, I am still unable to place the package into the Fedora repository due to the flag issue.

Is there any progress on this issue?

Is there some reason that you need to have the flags specifically compiled into your plasmoid? Why not use the shared flags that kde uses? That way you don't have to worry about the issue at all. - May 04 2009

I agree with you 100%. I also think its silly. But like I wrote in a previous post some time ago. Its a historical thing where Redhat was criticized by the People's Republic of China for including the Taiwanese flag because they believe that the island is part of the mainland. There was a big threat to ban Redhat so Redhat removed all flags so that there would not be any favoritism. Fedora maintains the same policy. Childish really on the part of the People's Republic. But it really is a loosing and worthless battle. If there is anything that you can do to accommodate us it would be really great.

And many many thanks. - Apr 23 2009

Sorry, for some reason I didn't get notification about this? I am the packager of translatoid for fedora. I have packaged version 6 "translatoid without flag for FEDORA" and it's standing in the stable repository and it works just fine.

Country flags in Fedora / Redhat is against packaging policy due to concerns over the conflict between the Peoples Republic of China and Taiwan. In version 6 flagless you replaced the country flags with light bulbs. Which works just fine.

What would be best, and probably easiest in the long run for you is if you can section off the flags and then enable a cmake flag that excludes the flags. I don't know how to do this.

Your help would be most appreciated. - Apr 22 2009

Will there be a flagless version for an easy build with fedora? - Apr 21 2009

Will there be a noflag version of 0.8?

It would be really easier in the long run, I think, if you're willing to do this, to be able to throw some kind of cmake option. some equivalent to make's option of --without-option. So essentially you would only have to do this once.

Hi

This is a great plasmoid.

I'm working to get translatoid packaged and included into Fedora. We have a problem including the country flags due to packaging constraints. A patch has been developed and we've worked around the issue by replacing the country flags with country codes. The patch can currently be found at:

http://rezza.hofyland.cz/fedora/packages/kde-plasma-translatoid/kde-plasma-translatoid-ban-flags.patch

It is my feeling, of course if you are willing, that a better approach would be to provide the option to exclude the country flags.

If you can help with this issue, it would be very greatly appreaciated.

OK. Thank you very much for letting me know about the direction of development. Regarding you're comment about the task manager looking silly... I dunno I still like it with the lighting effect. It doesn't really look blurred to me. I looks more like a light is on indicating that this is app currently active. Like I said... I like this effect. However, you are the developer. I received the same error when trying to compile however, I had to comment the other two lines to fix the problem so it would look like this

// copyButton->setImage("edit-copy.png"); - Jan 31 2009

I guess. I will be the second person. The reason being, is that I really liked the lighting effect which enhanced the curvature on the panels. I also preferred the uniform task manager and system tray instead of the beveling.

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by zvonSully 10 comments

It really shouldn't matter what the "standard" menu looks like as long as the initial menu is laid out in a logical fashion. What I would like to see is distros cease and desist on telling me what the menu structure ought to be and let me decide for myself. It makes absolutely no sense to have the menus that both KDE and lets say GNOME sit in the same folder sharing the same structure. It is very rare that a KDE user will use GNOME or a GNOME user, KDE.

What would really be great is the KDE team would come up with drag and drop in the menus. And then leave them alone the next time I upgrade KDE or my distro - May 07 2005
