Found this in another such program as well! Problem must be in opengl/nvidia legacy driver since theat program can be actively set to not use opengl and the bug goes away.

Now how do I get this to nvidia (and will they fix this for their older hardware)? - Jun 10 2008

This is a cute idea. A bug I found is that the area "under" the rotated (right-click) piece is not correctly cleared. This makes play very difficult at best.

You might look at my java front end for xjig, (erroneously?) posted on kde-apps.org. OK, it's java but the UI has some stuff which could be nice in tetzle as well such as:
1. New game image pane is filled in a background thread. UI is there immediately. Image conversions are backgrounded as well (from most anything to those zjig accepts using imagemagick). Qt4 is supposed to be good at this.
2. Resizing--show and make puzzle practical size. Calculations in background as well.
3. Good starting piece-size calculation (figures sent to xjig command line).
4. An image librarian (gravy).
5. Screen captures (more gravy). - May 21 2008

Where can I get dictionaries? Babylon's require buying their stuff.

A nice addition would be an internal downloader for dictionaries.

Ever seen "wordpoint" (win9*, winnt) ?? ALt/click on a word and get translations in several languages. Extracts word by a hooked dll, not by OCR (but gpl ocrs are around on most distros!) Same technology in answers.com applet.

Any way to do this in QT4 (or X)? - Apr 11 2008

OK. Got good archives.

As in past versions, I never succeded in compiling the "3rdParty" stuff. Some suggestions:

1. A configure script that can set paths of existing installed packages suchs as gsl.

2. More sophisticated: Kde had that konstruct package that downloaded as well as built compnonents. Such would get qwtplot, etc. and build them first in the folders you want.

3. I could install a .deb but have no need for a service contract. Using "checkinstall", any one who succedes in compiling everything could create a .deb (even though these usually are not canonical Debian ruled installations) so why not simply give us a good .deb (with no customer support--want that, pay for it!). - Apr 11 2008

so no Lily. I would really love to try this thing.

(The fltk editor exists, does not support UTF8--I compiled fltk for UTF8 could presumably get that working with an appropriate font on his editor pane.)

The main dependency for LilyKDE is the python bindings. Somehow, KDE bindings take so much resources to build up that they crash the compiler. - Feb 21 2008
Linux Unified Kernel

System Tools (NOT OS or ROMS) by linooxlee 10 comments

The main problem is not whether kde-apps is or is not the place. It is of language and I do not mean C.

I think I see what our Chinese friends are trying to accomplish but the Bable-fish translations are really not readable.

If I knew that the kernel patches were compatible with the RT preempt, I might try that (one can always keep multiple kernels around in Linux). Patching wine is a bigger and more continuous bother and I doubt many will try that. This thing wants to replace wine with kernel level operability so either "in" or "out".

As I said, get multimedia device compatibility at native speeds and this will be prize. Of course, now one must moderate the native-linux accesses and the Linux Unified Kernel accesses which may now be hitting the same hardware. - Feb 19 2008

Correction: One must patch BOTH.

A few questions?
1. What does this do more than what wine does now?
2. Safe to apply patch to -rt (Ingo's) patched kernel (rt preemptable)?
3. Wine, I suppose, will now use the kernel module. I do not understand patching EITHER wine or the kernel. (I think building wine from source takes longer than compiling the kernel.) It might do to have this incorporated into the wine project and if it be possible to leave the linux kernel alone and simply compile the module against the kernel source or headers, this might be better for most users. - Feb 18 2008

OK, can do.

However, here is the "offending" code. Once again, there is an explicit test here:

#if defined(FLAC_API_VERSION_1_1_1_OR_OLDER)
if (vorbis_comments.get_vendor_string().is_valid()) {
const FLAC::Metadata::VorbisComment::Entry &entry =
vorbis_comments.get_vendor_string();

QString s = QString::fromUtf8(
entry.get_field(),
entry.get_field_length());
m_info.set(INF_SOFTWARE, s);
qDebug("Encoded by: '%s'\n\n", s.local8Bit().data());
}
#elif defined(FLAC_API_VERSION_1_1_2) || defined(FLAC_API_VERSION_1_1_3)
QString vendor = QString::fromUtf8(reinterpret_cast<const char *>(
vorbis_comments.get_vendor_string()));
if (vendor.length()) {
m_info.set(INF_SOFTWARE, vendor);
qDebug("Encoded by: '%s'\n\n", vendor.local8Bit().data());
}
#else
#error "no usable FLAC API found"
#endif

What should be #define'd if you are using 1.1.4 or 2.1.0 or whatever is newer?

That #elif may be a carryover which needs be replaced (or maybe this should be the #else if all else fails?). - Jan 27 2008

Suggestions:

Icon--the frame around it is annoying. Showing statics would be nice but I use the system monitor applet so this should be optional. Might combine these two applets at some point--a single click as no action in the system monitor so it could open your view!

Nice--would be nice to see the niceness of the applications and to be able to renice them as well

Persistence--option to not close the view on loss of focus, maybe a keystroke or checkbox. Now I no longer need top or that OTHER k-process-monitor :-) - Dec 17 2007

Ah, yesss. The old interoperability issue. A pet peeve of mine for a long time.

Cubase vs Cakewalk vs Tracktion vs ... never the twain do meet. But we are Opensource. Unfortunately, supporting "competing" closed formats means reverse-engineering. Cakewalk, for example, has MIDI tracks, audio tracks which are pointers to pieces of audio .wav files and track properties, plugin chains, etc. Their .bun files put all this in one huge file.

I proposed (on Linux Audio Users list) everyone support a simple open format based on XML (text specifications) of similar paradigm. There is an "AAF" consortium which had a binary format (humongous, also covering video and ALL authoring needs!) and should have an XML(-text) based version some day as well. Such should be the future. - Dec 07 2007

Such a beast needs be a daemon.

Two are on the Debian packages:

"and" a nice daemon which works off a config file.

I compiled with it active. Question is how you are distributing this since VST is "non-free" (freely available including sources but non-GPL license and the "sdk" must be gotten from Steinberg/Yamaha). Your compile asks for none of this.

Compiling Ardour with VST cites this problem and says you cannot distribute the binary. Even a differing exec name! One must place a zipped sdk or link it to a source subdirectory to compile.

Muse--one must set environment variables for jack-fst as well as choose in configure. To compile, one needs to manually copy/symlink stuff from the jack-fst sources to which also contain two headers from Steinberg. (This is an error in the muse configure, not a licensing qwerk.)

So .. beware of license problems. You might need to make this less convenient for us :-( ! - Sep 06 2007

Program is looking nice. It imports complex MIDI files seemingly correctly.

However, it cannot connect to any MIDI devices! This is an old problem already.

MIDI dialog presents one interface. Obviously needs two, input and output. No matter, it cannot connect to one chosen. Once MIDI is working, need friendly support of GS and XG (mostly for "program" names. Can live without this for import of preexisting files as long as the bank and program numbers are intact.

Using Debian Sid, current jack. BTW: Jack MIDI transport is now available as well. - Sep 06 2007

Wine and Mono run appropriate (if one is lucky) exe's. Problem occurs when .net and windows API are mixed. Neither program handles "marshaling".

This is the only one #defined in config.h. This hard definition is somehow not good enough for:
plugins/codec_flac/FlacCodecDecoder.cpp
and FlacCodecEncoder.cpp. I had to explicitely #define in in these to compile them.

And thar's the rub: Current libflac in debian unstable is 1.1.4. Hopefully this is backwards compatible to 1.1.3 (why all those #if's).
