kio-locate

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by arminstraub 178 comments

I really like this, having a locate protocol is nice.

There are a few inconveniences, in addition to what you describe in your homepage:

Slashes: if you put a slash in the beginning of the pattern, it seems kde starts a process to complete the URL. It can be avoided by quoting the pattern, which is a bit inconvenient, but it works.

Examples:
locate:/home/USER/src/+.diff

Also, using tilde doesn't work, while it does when calling locate from the shell. Example:

locate ~/src/*.diff
or for the protocol
locate:~/src/+.diff

That said, i find it very cool to use this for example in kates builtin directory viewer :) - Oct 22 2004
dotCURVE

KDE 3.5 Themes by peroxid 56 comments

I gave up using it again. The problem with the scrollbars missing a background and the scrollbar arrow buttons not being painted apart form the arrows make it unusable.

All the unaccounted-for areas betweeen the rounded corners looks confusing. Too many of my apps looked in general ugly, i'll stick to Plastik for a while yet. - Oct 04 2004

Using the selection color for activated buttons is quite overwhelming.

The scrollbars are not clearly seperated from the scrolling widgets, they need a background color.

The rounded edges should adjust to the size of small widgets like scrollbars and toolbar buttons, so that they had a slightly more squared look.

Konq's throbber doesn't work.

Plastic has a very nice feature where the current item has a colored border, for example one of a number of input fields, that works very well. I miss that with dotCurve.

I also miss a hover effect for buttons, if even just a discrete one.

Antialiasing the lines wouldn't hurt ;) - Oct 04 2004
BasKet Note Pads

Eh, I *dislike* the grip. I think it does not belong in KDE apps, it breaks the style.

Cool, except i think annotation is nice. little used maybe?

Yes, with 0.6.0 (or before) I will componentize BasKet and make a universal sidebar plugin (on desktop or into konqueror).

Cool. If you make it a KPart, I'll do the kate integration for you :)

I can configure each basket to edit on click. My kde setting is singleclick. basKet version is 0.5b1. - Sep 29 2004
BasKet Note Pads

...and:
One of my usages will be maintaining TODO lists, which will often be related to URLS -- BRs, emails etc. So I'd like the richtext items linkify URLS (and pass them to KRun of cause)
support for lists and a basic set of styles (h1-7, code, pre) for example.
...and:
When editing text, it would be cool if the items area would expand with the need (that is, take more height when RET is pressed). And vice versa.
...and:
Since basKet provides a directory-like feature, how about adding konq "actions" menus (using the konq service scripts)?

Ok, I'll leave it with that for now -- maybe i can help wit a bit of it - Sep 29 2004

I really like basket, it seems to cover a lot of small tasks.

Why the Qt statusbar -- in KDE, statusbars does not have the hardcoded resize grip. Please use KStatusBar, or use the statusBar() function of KMainWindow.

Now a suggestion: Could the time and mtime properties of items be made available as meta data, possibly with display with each item?

And another one: could this be a KPart, so that I could embed a basket object in an application, like a clip book in a konqueror sidebar or Kate toolview? Possibly with event access, so that text could be pasted into kate when clicked, for example.

And yet one: could double click be made activate the inline editing for text objects? - Sep 29 2004

Please get rid of the puild in player. It can only handle a very limited set of mimetypes, you should just let the user settings decide which app to use for previews. - Sep 27 2004
KWin drop shadow patches for kde3.3

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by zuxez 71 comments

There is a patch on this server that provides xcompmgr utilization for kwin, if not drop shadows - where does that fit in for you?

For uninstalling: The KDE makefiles contains a uninstall target, so you can do "make uninstall" in any build directory in a kde module, given you keep the makefiles. - Sep 09 2004

It works allright, and konqueror found the plugin with little hazard.

Many of the sites linked in the sample list at http://www.djvuzone.org/links/index.html are dead, and many fails to send a correct mimetype (for konqueror to be able to understand it, the mimetype should be "image/djvu" it seems)

I can see that i can agree that compression is good, and the viewer is fairly nice, aooming/panning/navigation works well. It misses an option to use kdes printing, even I cant see how this can ever come close to the printing quality of pdf. - Jul 09 2004
kcmGRunlevel

System Tools (NOT OS or ROMS) by sarahb523 12 comments

Hi, I considered somthing like this but never got around to implementing it.
One complaint: having all the defined runlevels as columns in a list view is not logic or easy to overview. In my opinion, the service status should be seperate from the runlevel editing, and there should be a list (combobox for example) to chose the runlevel to edit, and a KActionSelector widget (two listboxes with arrows to move items between them) to edit the individual runlevels. - Apr 25 2004
KAdventure

Arcade by arendjr2 8 comments

This is really nice! It is allready nice, with a few additions a really cool game.
Mostly i miss some information and a little bit of a GUI, and for the gameplay support for the game area to be a different size than the window so the window can stay the same size. - Apr 04 2004

QtCurve by Brandybuck 34 comments

I really like this style a lot, but it seems kate gets a extra frame around its view manager (the area with the editor component[s]). Is that right? - Mar 30 2004
Is this based on my old rellinks plugin -- which i never got to get up to speed?
In any case, it looks nice :-) - Feb 24 2004
kroneko

System Tools (NOT OS or ROMS) by kroneko 6 comments

I'm just installing kroneko, it looks very promising.
I just wonder why it isn't implemented as a kcm module -- after all, this is a system configuration issue. - Feb 14 2004
