Please forget what I was talking. :)
Is it possible that your panel is at the top or on the left/right of your Desktop? If I put my panel there the arrow appears.

Thats a good question! I don't really know whats up with this arrow - sometimes there is one and sometimes not. I guess this may be depending on your gtk-theme!? I will ask google - if I find the answer I post it here. - Apr 25 2009
