I'm still learning ( by doing ) and have been going on what looks nice and is easy to see ( I'm colorblind. ) and not necessarily for unification though that is a goal as well.

What exactly do you mean by "the sliders don't behave like the buttons"?

Where is this happening? ( So I know what to check in the future. )
"highlighted checkboxes & radiobuttons in the menus are inconsistent with the normal ones"

"the menubar, menus, and lists are very squashed, though it seems this is a design decision"

You would be correct on this. I despise long menus.

How do I go about doing this?
"flat menubar without shadow"

Thank you for your comments, all of you. Because of them I am learning what people want and how to go about doing it.

I love to create and, hope to do more and more in the future better than ever.

paraboy: "Probably the best way of going about this is to think of something you want to do and then try and do it, so you learn the limitations of clearlooks or murrine, etc."

The problem is that their is no engine that can do all of what I want.
If I want soft rounded corners or strong gradents I want them on everything unless I define it not to be.

It really sucks I haven't learned to program yet or I would have made my own engine with the features I want.
( rgba, variable roundness for everything, inner/outer "glow" with adjustable strength, top/bottom/left/right gradients, raised/sunken widgets and probably a few more things I forgot. ) - Aug 20 2008

The themes are really not that hard to edit once you get an idea how the options affect the theme.

I personally go to my themes folder ( ~/.themes ) and copy the folder of the theme I want to modify to the desktop then, rename the folder and compress it as a .tar.gz.

I then install this archive as any other theme and make it active.
Then open gedit and open ~/.theme/NewThemeName/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

Trash the file and folder on your desktop as they are no longer needed.

Run the widget factory and change a parameter in the gtkrc save it and hit refresh in the widget factory to see what it did then repeat until the theme looks the way you want, save make a new tar.gz, upload, ???, profit. :)

1: Open synaptic. ( System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager )
2: Go to the "settings" menu and click "Repositories".
3: Click the "Third-Party Software" tab then click the "Add" button.
4: In the text entry field marked "APT Line:" copy/paste the "apt sources.list entries" that are near the top of the web site I linked one at a time, repeat for the second line.
5: Close the "Software Sources" window, read and dismiss any dialogs, and click the "Reload" button at the top of Synaptic.
6: Search for "gtk2-engines-murrine". You will probably have two or three versions available but you will see only the highest one, select it and click "Package > Force Version" in the window menu.
7: The window that pops up will have a drop-down list of versions you can choose, pick the SVN version from ( then click the "Force Version" button.
8: Click the "Apply" button and wait, when done reapply the theme and it should work.

Steps 1-5 are the GUI way of adding repositories and, 6-7 are the GUI way of overriding a package version.

The CVS murrine engine has a mathematically lower version than the "official" packages. ( 0.53.1+svn20080529 as opposed to 0.53.1-1ubuntu2. The "1" after the "53.1" part makes the official version higher and is why the lone package you installed did not work. )

The animated progress bars eat a lot of CPU cycles on my machine.
I wanted to know if anyone else was seeing the same and if you ( Crispy ) are working to optimize the engine more because I really like many parts of it.
Sorry but, no engine is perfect, that's why I use multiple engines in my themes.
But, this one I like a lot. - Aug 01 2008

Nautilus Scripts by Perberos 12 comments

Quote:copypasta into ~/.gnome2/nautilus-scripts/

I have tried this several times with no luck and now I think my computer is broken.

At first I hadn't the foggiest as to how I should get the noodles on to my hard drive.
I tried to put them in the CDROM drive to copy them over but that didn't work and now the tray won't open.
Then, I thought that maybe I had the wrong type of noodle ( your instructions are quite vague on this ) so I looked my hard drive over and noticed a label with a small dent in it.
Even though it said "Warranty Void If Removed." my drive is old anyway so I peeled this up and sure enough there it was, a small round hole!
I then proceeded to get me some angel hair pasta as this is the only type small enough to fit in the hole that I know of. Anyway, I turned my computer on then began to feed the noodle into the hole, this is where my troubles really began.
I started to look for the script when I received many file not found errors, then I got a device not ready message.
I am not sure how /dev/sda can be not ready as this is my only hard drive in this computer.
Now it won't boot at all, instead it just beeps and the drive access light stays on.

I hope you can help me with this problem as I was hoping to use the script to back up my home folder as a .deb package to help me restore easily if needed. - Jul 29 2008
Vista Start Menu for Gnome Panel

Various Gnome Stuff by qb89dragon 381 comments

If run from command line ( or panel it does not work.
The button will appear on the panel and on first run bring up the settings dialog but clicking on the button seems to result in nothing.
Running from the command line produces no menu nor errors or output of any kind.
The settings dialog has no entries in the "styles" combobox and the menu must be removed and readded to the panel for settings to take effect. (Though I believe that is normal.)

I have all dependences installed and have tried both install methods (.deb and source.)
