Description:

A KDE plasmoid that shows active application’s icon and/or name. I think it is useful to use jointly the menubar. It is based on current app control. In fact, it would better if the active application applet was eventually part of the menubar applet.

To install:
- extract to a folder and once there
- mkdir build && cd build
- cmake .. -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde4-config --prefix`
- make
- sudo make install

Any (constructive) feedback is welcome

Is this still happening to you? I have been using new version of active application for several days without problem. it could also be that some config file was making the issue. you could try removing the applet from the bar and including it again afterwards...

Sorry for the very late answer... I have exams atm and don't have much time. I just installed my modded version of your old version and use it. I don't have the time to test your new one, but I'll do it when my exams are done. Then I can tell you more! So ones again, sorry for the late answer!

Best regards!

Thanks for telling. Could you please add an informative backtrace of the plasma-desktop crash?
This would be very appreciated to see more specifically what the problem was.
Once we look at that we can try to get where the actual problem is, surely in Active Application, but might be also possible in Plasma itself, hopefully not.

Hey!
It would be great if you add an option to remove the programm-name-label, so that the only thing you see is the icon. I use the X-Bar from bespin and this already shows the programm name. This would be great!

Best regards!

Yes, but I am very happy with Xbar and it has some abilities, menu bar hasn't and so I ask if he could ad an option or write me, which lines I have to change in code to remove the label. I already tried it, but I didn't get it.

Best regards!

to give options is almost always good. I'll try to do it when I have time, but I have to say that I'm quite busy right now. if you would like to do it, I could help you...

This day I looked again at the source code and now I created a version without the program-name. Now I am happy :). If anyone wants to have it, just ask me.

Best regards!

I plan to add these options:

- app name only
- app icon only
- both together

I hope I will be able to find some time for that soon...

This I made on purpose, because I wanted to associate the active application (icon and label) better to the menubar, so I kept here the same separation, but I also wanted to easily distinguish from the launcher, so I put a bigger separation there

maybe it would be better to use a panel separator to do the job while keeping lay->setContentsMargins(5, 0, 5, 0); but I also wanted this default behavior for the people that doesn't know/want to tweak little things. I may reconsider if most of the people dislikes this default.

anyways, if you really want to change this, just modify lay->setContentsMargins(15, 0, 5, 0); to lay->setContentsMargins(5, 0, 5, 0); in activeapp.cpp

i did:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4127065/debian%20package/natty/activeapps/plasma-activeapp_0.1.2%7Epeace1.deb

to do that i used cpack. cmakelist modified in this way

http://paste.ubuntu.com/614061

===>
sudo apt-get install libxtst-dev
kdelibs5-dev

to correct this :

Linking CXX shared module lib/plasma_applet_activeapp.so
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lkworkspace
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

i did this and it fixed the problem

sudo apt-get build-dep plasma-widget-xbar

mkdir build && cd build && cmake .. -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde4-config --prefix`

then

cpack ..

debian packages should be generated so...
sudo dpkg -i plasma-activeapp*

Good work on this plasmoid ;)

I took the liberty of creating a package for Arch Linux in AUR here: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=49365

If there's any problem let me know.

How did you get menu bar, like on the second and third screenshots? The only thing, that I see, is an icon and application's name.
