Hi,
Just letting you know that I have updated it, and you can now customize all those buttons in the preferences dialog.

You can get menu icons by enabling button icons on the gtk theme you are using.

Another thing, does the menu show up in your taskbar at the top, as it should not be doing that.

Sure, I'll make it so you can customize all the buttons down the right hand side, look back here in a couple of hours and it'll be done.

hello im trying the last updated version
transparency seems to does not works here (im using compiz-fusion)

the position on top is a bit weirdbut it's ok

you really should add an option to modify icon button (i really can't keep this vista icon on my desktop :o) )

i hope some body more designer than me can make a beautifull ubuntu based theme
may be keeping gtk schema is possible ?(color/icon theme )

How to install it ?

Download the archive, unpack it all to a folder somewhere, double click the file that says "click here to install me!!" and type in your password. Then right click on the panel, go 'add to panel', and it will be there right at the bottom of the list.

If any of that doesn't work, please inform me and i'll fix it right away.

I must say I really like the vista start menu and the vista look, and I think it is really cool that you made this menu. There are only some I would change.

1.Icons : The Vista Icons looks really nice, but when you doesn't have given your gnome desktop an vista style it looks a bit out of place. Maybe you can make a theme which uses the icon theme installed of the user.

2.big buttons: when you click in a register with only some apps the buttons gets very big. it is not so important, but I would found it better, when they all have the same size.

3.Quick start: The quick start list at the head should be deletable in the settings. Maybe someone thinks that is cool, but when I have the firefox button on the desktop ore in the panel.

Nevertheless really brilliant, and I hope I could help you.
I really look forward to the searching by tipping function :)

I've updated it, the menu will work (no settings to change) on both the top and bottom of the screen. The round bit sticking above the panel can't be shown like this however, and that is a problem with the gtk panel theme. I will in future redesign the theme system to make it look better and less 'floaty' when it comes down from the top.

I cant figure out how to get this installed. Im checking the install script and it looks horrible, no offense.

Things arent copying the way they should and I have no clue where Themes came from.

Could you possibly explain?

It should install the modules to /usr/lib/vistamenu, install the Themes folder to /usr/share/vistamenu, place the bonobo server file in /usr/lib/bonobo, and symlink to the main python program from /usr/bin
I have no idea how to make a proper linux installer, and this worked when I tested it on a VM. If you can point me in the right direction to making it, I would appreciate it. I assumed (without any research into it) all linux distros have the same structure as ubuntu does for this method of installation.

Ok, I downloaded a fresh copy and went through the entire install script by hand. I got everything put where it should be. Now how do I start this menu?

Go right click on the panel and 'Add to panel', and it should be there on the list.

Ok, last comment and I'll shut up. You clearly have considerable talent. Maybe this was a warm up. I'd like to see something original now. I'm sure it will be amazing.

@coldstatue: Rather than that why don't you make something original yourself (or provide useful feedback) to the author of this work?

@qb89dragon: Nice work done there but it would be cool if the user could choose another logo (distros logos) other than Window's.

The idea behind my last paragraph in the description was to let other people add their own ideas, themes and talent to the menu, hence it will evolve into something unique and better, just in the same way linux evolved out of unix.

This is an abomination. What is the point of this inferior OS emulation? Be yourself, Linux. We love you just the way you are.
