There seems to be a problem on my computer too when using a user picture.
You can try this -> Go to your home folder and press CTRL+H to show hidden files.
Now find a file called .face and rename it to something else, it doesn't matter.
Now log back in and see if it works.

Only user picture I got working was my custom picture which I resized to some small size, and saved like .face in my home folder.

Dude this program wont work unless you have ubuntu 7.04 installed.

Try to make it run on decent versions. Such as Ubuntu 7.10 or Debian Etch/Lenny

I am running it from very first version to now on 7.10 ubuntu. Only thing i cannot do is get icons on list in white box on the left to show up like in screen shot. the icon at top right works great though

you have to edit the gtkrc file of the theme you using to display the apps icons on the menu.
On the gtkrc, find
gtk-button-images = 0
Replace with
gtk-button-images =1
Save the changes.

qb89dragon: Can you make your vista menu always display the apps icons, becuase many dark themes have "gtk-button-images" set to 0

Thanks that worked Moomex. I run everthing in 1280x1024. is there way to resize the icons in list. that come out really small at that reso. Also wondering when next release of moomex ultimatum. I use moomex ultimatum with moomex for the border. reset my color option for text to blue and everthing shows up. But hoping you will be releasing way to make black show up on vista and where it alters black to white text on grey for some reason like amsn.

I am mistaken. You have done fixed amsn with the last patch.

it seems that by fixing the icons bug issue by using the 64x65 trick makes the menu go faster , i guess mine was very slow because of the rendering bug

only have one bug now the search bug doesnt return anything ...

ohh , and can you make it so that when the applet gets loaded the top button gets in the right place? because i have to click on the menu every time e start my pc cause the top of the button is not in the right place

also what i was talking in the other reply about the new metacity ( for those who dont know the new version of metacity has composition , just like compiz9

Hi,
Any debug advice on why search is not working would be very much appreciated. It uses simple string function library based search techniques that should not fail, but I have seen this bug before. Could you try a debug of this to see if you can get any info on the bug at all, for me the search works perfectly in all testing environments I have used so far, so I have no way of finding the problem.

The speed of the menu will dramatically improve if you use the new cairo based menu window (even with nicer looking effects and transitions). The panel top not aligning is the longest standing bug to date, it is a problem of gnome applet event passthroughs, and currently it is impossible to capture a configure event in code, and any help whatsoever in resolving that would be greatly appreciated. I am at the point of giving up on it almost because it lowers the visual quality of the overall menu by not aligning correctly.

I found two more bugs in this great panel applet, I replaced my menus with it.

1. Synaptic doesn't run with gksudo so it is useless because no change can be made.

2. There is a problem with the menu subfolders. Wine folder is the example - I click wine in Vista menu and then I click the subfolder Programs, but nothing happens, and then I can't even use the back button.

It would be great if these little bugs were squished. :)

I can take a look at those for you. Synaptic can also be launched with 'Default programs', and this works correctly.

I have fixed the menu subfolders bug, however the next version might take awhile to come out as the menu is getting new features.
To fix this the quick way before the next release, type
sudo gedit /usr/lib/vistamenu/XDG.py

and at line 254 change
self.Menu = self.Menu.getMenu(self.L_Paths[index])

to

self.Menu = self.BaseMenu.getMenu(self.L_Paths[index])

Great work, I love it!
There is only one problem - icons on the top of the menu do not show (when using compiz), I only get a white rectangle.
It is a known problem that also happens with cairo-clock and there is an easy workaround - you just have to make sure that u are not using sizes that are power of 2 like 32x32, 64x64, 128x128, etc... Could you please try to fix this?

Yes, I have fixed that for the next release. However this release may take awhile due to the large number (and complexity) of new features being added.

If you want to change this manually right now, type sudo gedit /usr/share/vistamenu/Themes/0/themedata.xml and change Height="64" to Height="65"
and do the same for the other theme
sudo gedit /usr/share/vistamenu/Themes/1/themedata.xml

just want to report something about the icon problem , the icons show in the new metacity with compositor... but not on compiz ... in ubuntu

also , im still using the v1.03 , this new version is alot lot slower , any idea why?

Report

C

qb89dragon

The new version is slower because it does not cache the menu, therefore it will respond to changes in the menu (like installing or removing a program) whilst it is in operation.
Another limiting factor is the speed of creating and destroying the gtk widgets used on the menu. The gtk based menu will be replaced by a default cairo-based menu, which is far faster than the gtk one, even with animations! Looks better too.

I don't quite understand these two states of metacity you describe with the icon problem. What file type are the icons you are trying to load, svg, png, or xpm?

How to soulve this?

and have you tried using a standard gtk widget set such as clearlooks? have you checked you have met all the dependencies listed in the file entitled READ ME FIRST in the installer package.
