This is a small tutorial for people who (like me) don't like default kde desktop icons placement
As you all know, if you align your desktop icons to grid, horizontal distance between two icons is huge. This is because default icons' text width is set to high (first screenshot). You can change it easily:
- Right click on your desktop and select Configure Desktop...
- Click on Background tab
- Click on Advanced Options button
- Find Width for icon text option, and change its entry from default 150 to something like 80 (or 90, it's up to you - second screenshot). You can also use Auto, which will automaticaly choose value coresponding to font you choosed for desktop icons
- Save the settings
Now your icons are nicely placed (third screenshot).
