I don't see why there is such a fuss about a wallpaper. I am american and support capitalism, but I admire the art style of the communist era. I collect vintage soviet propaganda posters, and have a hammer & sickle tattoo on my shoulder, but am in no way communist. Appreciate the work of the artist and leave politics out of it. Political art is a perfectly viable and respectable form of art itself, and you should either accept and respect it as art regardless of your beliefs, or ignore it.

Hi, do you think American people will love Linux more if you convince them that we all are communists? Do you want to help Bill Gate$ to convince people that we are the ENEMY?

Hi,

I think a better question would be "Do I care?"

The answer to the aforementioned question is "No."

I'll bet he's from the US, trying to force his opinion (which MUST be right, cuz he's American) on everybody else. *sigh* I can't wait to get out of this country and move to Europe.

Though I disagree with Communism, it is nice art and a very interesting theme. Don't let people push you around who can't accept that they might not be right.

Hurrah, Comrade!

I must say, I'm greatly amused, and glad you made your Communist wallpapers...

As a FreeBSD user, I'm often annoyed for the lack of FreeBSD oriented Wallpapers, whereas, being an advocate for Communism, I can also enjoy these wallpapers :D Thanks!

bout this pic, isnt it? but not much on topic - well, I kind'a like communist art.

Once when I was in prague, bought a t-shirt with the hammer&sikkel symbol. But someone warned me that if I whould go outside the citty, ppl whould be angry about this - they KNEW what communism was - and hated it.

made me think about it. there hasn't been a communist regime that seemed to be nice to its ppl. why? because communists claim that they KNOW what the common ppl want, because 'of course' everyone wants the same. so one man (lenin for example) can simply say and do what the ppl want without asking them... And of course, those who want something else are simply bad bad bad and you have to kill them.

while thats perfectly normal in a democratic/kapitalistic system, here is the reason you can't speak for yourself in an communist country - if you dissagree, you are bad bad bad. And get killed. thats why there is censorship everywhere.

A communist whould never let its friend down - but someone who disagree's with communism (or anything the *great leader* says), is no friend.

I prefer living in the netherlands... ;-) Amerika is too kapitalistic for me (they don't seem to CARE) but thank God in europe we think a bit different. I use to call the european "system" an social kapitalism.

BTW about "growing up": well, at least here in the netherlands, there aren't much "communists" in age above 25... and alot below that.

good work for Lenin and Mao, but i don't agree for Fidel Castro. Like a boy told above, Lenin is true communist, whereas Stalin was only dictator in a country with a statalist economic politic.
I think it's same thing with Fidel Castro and Ernesto Che Guevara (do u know him.. yah?)... So el Che was a great example of communist man, and when he was in Cuba, Cuba was really a free nation...
Now, you can see how Castro reduced Cuba... imprisoning people etc...

However.. good communism to all :D

p.s.: i have a t-shirt with intel inside logo.. but people read: "communist inside", and above "revolution processor"...
eheheeh :D

byez :D

The wallpapers for this series are not really made to put any particular Communist leaders on a pedestal. All I am doing with this is featuring Communist leaders in general. I just Communist symbolism and artwork.

By the way, that sounds like a really cool shirt... Do you have a picture of it or know of a site that does?

who do you guys think lenin killed, what millions are supposed to have been slaughtered???
the time of the revolution 98% of the russian population was starving because they were victims of the totalitarian zsar reign. they were exploited by the ruling class of that time. you will understand that in the beginning of this century you were not able go out and demonstrate against your living conditions. action was required and lenin was there to liberate the people. most of the ruling class fled, those willing to share there wealth were allowed to stay(i am not ignorant, of course it didnt go easy 100% of the times but in general that was what happened) the entire army worked with the bolshevik and the parlament(an instrument of the zsar installed to calm the call for democracy-which didnt work) surrundered. as the people took over the political buildings ONE death was reported, everyone else surrendered.
now where are the millions lenin is supposed to have killed? there were no rich million that (could have) resisted and the poor were pro-revolution.
i would also like to point out that lenin is no way connected to the crimes and prosecutions of the stalin regime. before his death he wrote letters, saying that he thinks of stalin as inhuman and that he does not want stalin to become his successor. sadly stalin at that point had the power to have the letters dissappear to show up many years later (too late).

enough of political discussion, its hard to argue against prejudices people were brought up with.
i think it would be graet to have kde-look make an extra section for religious art and an extra section for political art so that nobody is offended, but those interested find what they are looking for.

actually i am german ;), but my parents were active members of the german communist movement during the cold war (my father was a pretty important person, went to university in moscow and in the gdr). in the end both of my parents parted with the kpd(german communist party) because of political reasons, my father was a progressive socialist so to speak and had many conflicts inside the party. although they are no longer members of the communist party they still consider themselves socialists.
i myself have learned alot from their past. (in my opinion real knowledge you mostly get by interaction with other people, books teach poorly - although they're better than nothing...)
i always think its strange to see so many people talking bad about communism without ever having learned anything substantial about it. its sad to see that marxist ideads are always reduced to some crimes of the latter soviet history. saying socialism cant work because someone failed it sometime somewhere is absolutely ridiculous,i mean just look at were capitalism and imperialism have gotten africa to! if that is not the best example of a failed system...
and then all the other consequences of capitalism we witness today in the west: mass unemployment, increasing poverty, decreasing participation in elections(what ligitimacy has a govnmt got when only 40% went to vote?), terrorism(violence is always met with counter-violence - a natural reaction) and then of course there is WAR, maybe one of the most extreme, but obvious products of capitalism...
anyway good to see some komrades up on kde-look ;)

What is all the fuss about?
If it was about Uncle Joe(times - man of the year 1939) then I would understand.
We cannot really be sure how Lenin would have acted since he was only in power until his death in 1924. Most of the bad things people remember was ordered by Stalin(or his administration).

If a few people can persuade a site to remove material that upsets them - they in all that matters become a tool for censure.

That (Lenin being a "good guy" and the only bad guy being Stalin) is a myth. The original Tcheka massacres of the Mecheviks, the 2/28/1921 Cronstadt massacre and the "war communism" famine that killed a few million were all Lenin's doing. Would it be ok to do a wallpaper of Hitler saying "I am fascism" and argue that in his early days he built motorways? Is it censorship to dislike icons of totalitarian regimes, be they far left or far right wing?

Lenin killed Kulaks, which is fine by me. The Kulaks were the upper-class who suppressed and killed the Russian lower-class.

The war communism only existed when it was very important (civil war). War communism was abolished as soon as in 1921.
This centralization of industry and the monetary system is not specificly a communist reaction to war. All countries do it.

Sorry for my english. I'm better at history than at English.

Why would I do a wallpaper of Adolf Hitler saying "I'm Fascism"? That wouldn't fit the theme. If I was to do a Hitler feature, it would say "I am National Socialism" or something in regards to his blaming of the Jews for every little thing (which is why I would not do such a feature).

If I were to feature the "I'm Fascism" quote, it would most certainly be reserved for Benito Mussolini.

Ah - I did not meant to portray him as a good guy.
Just point to the fact that most of the wrongdoings was of stalins making(Lenin did not live long enough :)
About the war with the white guard(is this the right word?) - Many western power is to blame for that as well.

Yes - It would be okay posting a wallpaper with hitler as long as it is "decent".... it is quite hard to decide what is tho...

As long as we show them we can hate or love them as much as we want

The Mencheviks were not White Russians, but merely another -probably more moderate- communist party which was overthrown, banned and about 6500 if its members murdered by Lenin's Bloshevik party.

I'll just shut up now. But I do find it shocking that some people think these kind of icons are cool. I for one find them insulting.

Well, since were now debating the concept of communism and religion, has anyone noticed how crypto-christian marxism sounds?

What I mean by this is that Marx spoke of the revolution (apparently inevitable, though you could argue that he cannot claim that since he mentioned the idea, and so brought the idea to the awareness of others!), and in the bible, there is this talk of the dissolution of the "wicked governments of this planet, and the people will bring the kingdom of Christ to earth"

Funny, when you consider that Marx was a jew!
